Behavior coaches have a knack for helping others when they’re having strong emotions, and support challenging behavior using written support plans. The behavior coach is a person who works alongside other direct support staff to support people with disabilities. They are responsible for all duties that direct support staff complete. They also become familiar with the behavior supports people need, and help others to implement those plans.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide colleagues with support, constructive feedback and onsite education, as needed, about the implementation of various support plans
  2. Supporting people through challenging times, including implementing positive approaches and various support plans, such as behavior supports plans, guidelines and monitoring plans
  3. Provide direct observations to assist in behavior support plan development, implementation and modification
  4. Document positive behavior and any challenges and/or symptoms
  5. Provide support and modeling to direct support staff on how to write thorough behavior progress notes.
  6. Listen attentively and take a genuine interest in the people you’re supporting
  7. Offer support with personal hygiene and maintaining schedules
  8. Encourage people to deepen meaningful relationships with friends, family and loved ones, which includes get-togethers, phone calls and more
  9. Assist with medical needs, including monitoring health, administering medication and completing documentation
  10. Drive agency vehicles to provide transportation for people

Qualifications

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalency; college experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license that’s in compliance with Heritage Christian Services’ motor vehicle record standards, and reliable transportation to and from work
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts
  • Experience working with people who have an intellectual or developmental disability is preferred
  • Physical ability to effectively implement proper lifting and transfer techniques
