Position Summary:

The primary focus of The Mechanical Engineering Team Lead is the development, design, and documentation of the mechanical and electromechanical systems, assemblies, and details for the Gleason Automation Systems automated manufacturing equipment. This includes, but are not limited to, the ancillary products from concept stage through full implementation of the design and detail.

Job Responsibilities:

  • A thorough understanding of integrated electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems as well as related manufacturing processes
  • Develops design solutions using a combination of creativity and engineering tools that meet or exceed customer expectations and complete technical requirements and machine configurations.
  • Engineers components and assemblies with the appropriate documentation detail and application of GD&T, CAD data archiving, and business system adherence.
  • Work with other technical disciplines to specify, design, and implement features to support the design of automation equipment
  • Will be responsible for design maintenance (ECO)
  • Produce detail drawings for all component parts
  • Produce Bill of Materials for assemblies
  • Attend, participate, conduct design reviews for proposed designs
  • Provide technical support to Sales & Application Engineering, Manufacturing, Debug, Test, Runoff, Customer, and Field Service
  • Utilize effective time management and prioritization skills to complete assigned tasks according to priority and due dates
  • Communicate effectively verbally, and in various electronic formats, project progress and technical information to various audiences
  • Assigns tasks and leads the team with the alignment of the standards, processes, and specifications.
  • Develops and implements processes and process improvements.
  • Manages and approves team’s hours
  • Perform other tasks and activities as needed

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • Extensive experience with 3D Modeling (i.e. SolidWorks) and 2D Drafting Software (i.e. AutoCAD)
  • Experience with application of GD&T in design and details
  • Experience in machine and mechanism design
  • Experience with automation equipment i.e. robotics, drives, transmission devices
  • Experience with fabrication methods and tolerances for manufacture of industrial automation equipment (i.e. machining, sheet metal, welding, finishing)
  • Proven ability to efficiently manage time and prioritize simultaneous tasks.
  • Ability to work with other engineers and disciplines to relay technical information and effectively contribute in meetings/discussions/brainstorming sessions
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and handle multiple tasks/projects concurrently
  • Must be able to work productively within a team environment
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to efficiently manage time and prioritize simultaneous tasks.
  • Project and Team Leadership experience

Preferred Education/Training/Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, with emphasis on Machine Design, Electromechanical Systems, Automation, Robotics
  • BSME/BSMT and 5-10 year(s) related experience and/or training

Computer Skills:

  • 3D Modeling (i.e. SolidWorks) and 2D Drafting Software (i.e. AutoCAD)
  • Business Systems Software (i.e. ERP, MRP, PDM)
  • MS Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Project or other Project Management Software
  • Intranet (Time and Attendance) and other basic computer skills

Travel Requirements:

This position involves minimal travel, however, could involve travel to customers anywhere in the world.
