High School Theology Teacher

 

Job Summary

  • McQuaid Jesuit, a Catholic school in Rochester, NY, teaching boys’ grades 6-12, is seeking a High School Theology Teacher.  The ideal candidate will be passionate about educating young men in the Catholic faith tradition, committed to Jesuit values, and capable of delivering engaging and theologically sound instruction.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach 5 sections of Theology to high school students (grades 9–12)
  • Deliver curriculum in alignment with the Jesuit educational philosophy
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that promote critical thinking, discussion, and theological reflection
  • Participate actively in the spiritual life of the school, including retreats, liturgies, and service opportunities
  • Maintain regular communication with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Collaborate with the Theology Department and Campus Ministry in integrating faith and justice into the school culture
  • Engage in professional development and ongoing formation in Ignatian pedagogy

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Other duties as assigned
  • We seek candidates who will participate in the extracurricular and spiritual life of the school. There are expectations of this position that may include but are not limited to school and faculty retreats.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Teaching experience at the high school or college level strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with Jesuit education and the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to support the mission of McQuaid Jesuit as a faith-based, all-boys, college-preparatory institution

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment: Fast-paced school environment working in a school and/or office setting.

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: Full time exempt, 10-month position with typical hours of 7:30am to 3:30pm. (additional hours/days may be required during the summer, extra summer days are paid a per diem rate) Salary range $48,000 to $58,000 per year
