Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Director of the Department of Recreation and Wellness Programs (RecWell), the Administrative Coordinator, Student and Adjunct Staff serves as the primary human resources and student employment office liaison for all student employees and adjunct staff. The Administrative Coordinator is responsible for assisting with recruitment, hiring, onboarding, professional development and leadership development for ~400 student employees and ~100 adjunct staff members of RecWell.

Job Responsibilities

Recruitment and Hiring Administration:

  • Develop and maintain departmental hiring procedures and timelines to ensure compliance with related department, division and University policies and practices.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract a diverse pool of candidates for student and adjunct staff positions.
  • Facilitate the hiring process, including job postings, candidate screenings, interviews, and providing recommendations on selection in conjunction with RecWell staff members.
Onboarding, Offboarding and Training:
  • Design and deliver comprehensive and consistent onboarding programs and trainings to ensure new hires are well-integrated into their roles and the campus community.
  • Develop and facilitate training programs to enhance job skills and knowledge for student employees and adjunct staff.
  • Assist RecWell staff with offboarding of staff members.
Staff Development and Recognition:
  • Create and implement professional and personal development initiatives to support the holistic growth and advancement of student employees and adjunct staff.
  • Organize workshops, seminars, and training sessions focused on skill development and career readiness.
  • Develop and lead leadership development programs to cultivate future leaders within the RecWell department.
  • Assist with staff recognition.
Personnel Operations:
  • Ensure compliance with department, Student Wellness, divisional and university policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Act as the primary HR and Student Employment Office liaison for adjunct staff and student employees within RecWell.
  • Ensuring and tracking employee compliance with mandatory trainings and certifications.
  • Maintain staff certifications and records per university records retention policy.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and procedures. Keep apprised of relevant changes and recommend changes in departmental policy as needed.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination among staff members and departments.
Collaboration, and Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Collaborate with the Director of RecWell and other departmental leaders to align personnel related initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Engage with campus partners and external stakeholders to support the department's mission and objectives.
  • Collaborate and communicate with RIT operating units both inside and outside of Student Wellness.
  • Collaborate and communicate with external recreation professionals.
  • Attend and assist with RecWell, Student Wellness, and Student Affairs Divisional meetings and events as scheduled.
Assessment, Reporting and Other Responsibilities:
  • Provide staff data for Department, Divisional and University reporting as needed.
  • Assist with development and implementation of staff evaluations and assessments.
  • Participate in professional development activities pertinent to the role.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree: Human Resources, Recreation Management or a related field OR an equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered
  • 1-3 years of experience in human resources, staff development, staff supervision or a related field.
Skills:
  • Knowledge of personnel practices, recruitment strategies, and professional development programs.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems, as well as handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to manage and maintain confidential and private information; uses confidential, sensitive and or private records and information, protects information appropriately.
  • Computer competence using software and enterprise systems appropriate for the complexities of the role and its functions.
  • Effective interpersonal, written and electronic communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information in accessible terms to diverse or multicultural audiences.
  • Ability to collaborate and respond to student and staff needs 1:1 and in the group setting through instruction or leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education or recreational sports management.
  • Certification in human resources (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP).
  • Proven track record of successful staff development and leadership programs.
  • Conversational American Sign Language skills
