RochesterWorks is a local One-Stop career center and nonprofit member of the American Job Center Network that provides employment and training services to Monroe County. The Shift Program (formerly RCA Program) is funded, in part, through grant funds received by the ESL Community Foundation. The program seeks to serve program participants and direct resources and services to job seekers both pre-and post-employment and to employer partners participating in the program, with the goal of enhancing post-employment outcomes (higher retention and career advancement) for individuals facing significant barriers in Rochester, NY/Monroe County. This is a grant funded position through June 2026.

Role and Responsibilities:

The Success Coach will work directly with the Program Coordinator and report to the RochesterWorks Career Center Manager. They will engage with program participants during the initial 3-week program, throughout their job search, and for six months following employment. This role also involves cross-functional collaboration with RochesterWorks’ staff, as well as external interaction with community partners/stakeholders and employer participants.

Individual and Group Classroom Training and Coaching

  • Conduct classroom instruction independently and with team members.
  • Work collaboratively with the Shift Program team to improve/revise programming, when needed.
  • Coach program participants one-on-one and facilitating group discussions.
  • Utilize technical equipment in the classroom.
  • Effectively work with diverse populations.
  • Instruct participants in work readiness topics.
  • Guide individuals on how to use technology, when needed.
  • Utilize wrap-around services for those customers who have barriers that interfere with their ability to conduct their job search effectively.

Career Exploration Support

  • May administer and will interpret valid career assessments.
  • Assist participants in processing and integrating findings into the career exploration process to improve goal setting and decision-making.

Job Search Coaching

  • Coach customers in the full job search process: clarifying goals, creating resume and LinkedIn profiles, writing effective cover letters, networking strategy, action plans, applications, interview preparation, research, offer negotiation, and preparing to start the new job.
  • Coach customers in applying insights and learning from classroom exercises to improve focus, planning, and decision-making.
  • Assist with community outreach and job fairs, when needed.
  • Provide information on training, education, and community resources to customers.
  • Meet with program participants individually or in groups, to provide them with resources and materials for their job search including labor market information, occupational opportunities, Internet and web-based job postings, and job search tools.
  • Guide individuals and groups in an examination and exploration of occupational choices in their search for a job and training in the context of local labor market information.
  • Makes recommendations to The Shift Program Coordinator for process improvements.
  • Ensure quality control standards comply with funding, state, and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with RochesterWorks system partners and community agencies to deliver services and make appropriate referrals for employment support services and training services.
  • Stay current regarding occupational, educational, and labor market information to assist customers in determining and carrying out vocational and educational objectives.

Post-Employment Support

  • Continue to meet with and support customers after starting the new job.
  • Build effective working relationships with company supervisor, HR, and leaders.
  • Address work challenges and coach customer regarding behaviors, attitudes, and choices that may be effective or ineffective, applying insights and learning from classroom exercises to improve focus, planning, and decision-making.
  • Meet with customer and employer, if needed, to help address any unresolved issues.

Data Management/Reporting

  • Collects and records program and customer activity information in a timely manner.
  • Tracks pre-determined program measurements.
  • Produces timely reports, per determined deadlines.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and 5 years of related professional experience or Associates degree and 4 years of related professional experience; Bachelors degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in classroom instruction or professional workplace training.
  • Knowledge of appropriate administration and interpretation of career assessments.
  • Experience working with individuals from marginalized communities facing barriers to employment.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness assisting coaching in both one-on-one and facilitating group discussions.
  • Comfortable with technology; ability to effectively utilize technical equipment in the office and classroom.
  • Intermediate computer skills or higher.
  • Able to work effectively with a diverse population.
  • Comfort with initiating contact and engaging with community contacts and employers.
  • Public speaking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Cross-functional collaboration.
  • Personal vehicle, driver’s license, and insurance required
  • Strong attention to detail, plus the ability to understand the strategic vision.
  • Acts in a manner which supports and embraces RochesterWorks’ vision to integrate diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility into the day-to-day operations of the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience consulting with / advising business leaders regarding talent management challenges.
  • Certification in administering and interpretating valid career assessments.
  • Formal training and/or certification in Job Search Coaching and Career Management/Success Coaching.

This role involves a mix of sitting, standing and occasional lifting (up to 40 lbs.). Some outdoor site visits may be required.
