Description of Duties

This is a supervisory position responsible for serving victims of crime of all ages and types of crimes and their family members regardless of the type of crime. Duties involve assessing the needs of victims/witnesses and providing support, referral and follow-up services for crime victims. Duties also involve assisting victims and witnesses from the time they become victims/witnesses including all court appearances and the conclusion of cases and, in some instances, the provision of support after the conclusion of cases. Crisis intervention is also provided in conjunction with law enforcement and community based agencies. Travel is involved as the duties include meeting with victims at various locations such as their homes, shelters, hospitals and courtrooms. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Chief District Attorney Administrator, the District Attorney or other higher-level staff member. General supervision is exercised over Crime Victims Specialists.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class in the Monroe County Office of the District Attorney and must have served continuously on a permanent basis for twelve (12) months holding the position of Supervising Victim Witness Advocate immediately preceding the date of the written test.
