Quality Assurance Manager

Position Summary:

Responsible is to oversee all aspects of quality assurance and to ensure compliance regulations under SQF, FDA, USDA, HACCP, GMP, and company quality policies

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and/or maintain Quality Improvement policies and procedures that meet legal requirements and standards;
  • Provide leadership and support in establishing and directing the Quality Improvement Program for the plant;
  • Facilitate, integrate and/or coordinate the development, design, implementation and evaluation of identified quality improvement activities;
  • Supervise workers engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure conformity to GMP’s and maintain high productivity and technical integrity;
  • Develop and analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and to establish quality and reliability expectancy of finished products;
  • Responsible for the implementation, verification and validation of the SQF program.
  • Provide technical and statistical expertise to teams;
  • Formulate, document, and maintain quality control standards and on-going quality control objectives including the Company’s quality inspection and product release programs for incoming, in-process and finished goods.
  • Participate in various evaluations, audit, plant inspections and quality system audits;
  • Coordinate objectives with production procedures in cooperation with other plant managers to maximize product reliability and minimize cost;
  • Create, document and implement inspection criteria and procedures;
  • Interpret quality control philosophy to key personnel within Company;
  • Provide and oversee, inspection activity for product throughout production cycle;
  • Interact with customers and vendors to ensure quality of all purchased & sold products;
  • Design, develop, and implement Food Safety and quality control training programs for all plant personnel;
  • Analyze non-conformities and quality problems to determine root cause and implement corrective action including addressing customer complaints;
  • Develop robust KPI’s to track and report on quality incidents and to measure performance improvements;
  • Actively organize and review process for continuous improvement;
  • Manage QA budgetary;
  • Ensure the maintenance and calibration of the laboratory equipment;
  • Responsible for Food Safety and the reassessment for adequacy of the HACCP Plan (pre-requisites) at least annually and whenever any changes occur that could affect its hazard analysis or alter the HACCP Plan;
  • Coach, mentor and develop staff, including preparing and conducting employee performance appraisal;
  • Maintain employee work schedules including timecard approval, work assignments, job rotation, training, vacations and paid time off;
  • May be responsible for directing and coordinating the sanitation personnel in the absence of the Sanitation Manager;
  • Has the authority to initiate action on risks to food safety and quality problems.

Required Education, Skills, & Experience:

  • High School diploma required, Associates or Bachelors degree preferred in Food Science/Technology or related scientific discipline;
  • Minimum of 3 years of equivalent work experience in a similar capacity; preferably in a Food and Beverage manufacturing environment;
  • SQF Practitioner with prior experience implementing, verifying, and validating SQF program;
  • 2-5 years supervisory experience;
  • Demonstrated experience developing quality policies and procedures; including quality measurements, root cause analysis and problem resolution;
  • Must have strong analytical skills and knowledge of statistical tools;
  • Prior experience utilizing equipment such as refractometer, salt titrator, acid titrator, PH meter, color meter and consistometer, various gauges, torque meters;
  • Prior direct experience with FDA and other regulatory agencies strongly preferred
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel; Oracle experience desirable;
  • Must have high analytical aptitude and ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (written and oral) and team-based skills are essential;
  • Must be able to work across departments and build relationships with other departments to drive continuous improvement;
  • Must keep up with fast-paced work environment and record data as required in timely manner.

Working Conditions:

  • Time split between Plant (production floor) and Office environments;
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment, as needed/required;
  • Temperature in the work area varies;
  • Environment/work areas can be very wet, slippery and they have continuous forklift traffic;
  • Will handle and work around various moving equipment and chemicals;
  • Frequent use of hot/cold water to perform checks and clean equipment and areas;
  • Frequent lifting objects < 30 lbs. and pushing/pulling of objects less than 80 lbs. on carts;
  • Long-term standing, constantly moving around on foot, frequent bending, and constant climbing of stairs;
  • Must go to all areas where product is located and test where testing equipment is located;
