As a Registered Nurse Level IV, you will leverage your clinical expertise and leadership skills to develop and implement comprehensive care plans for patients. Additionally, you will serve as a mentor to fellow team members, providing guidance and support to ensure the highest standards of care on the unit.
3400 Unit – Nursing Excellence in Abdominal Surgical Post-Operative Care
A 20 bed, high-acuity surgical telemetry unit that provides exceptional care to patients with complex surgical and medical needs. Our diverse patient population presents unique challenges and rewarding opportunities for nurses looking to expand their clinical expertise in care of post-operative abdominal surgical patients with medically complex comorbidities.

Nurses on the 3400 Unit develop a broad clinical skillset while caring for patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions, including:
- Patients requiring ostomy creations, colectomies, hernia repairs, nissen fundoplication, gastric-bypass surgeries, Whipple procedures, voice feminization, thyroidectomies, mastectomies, hysterectomies, prostatectomies, among other surgical needs.
- Patients with complex medical comorbidities such as insulin dependent diabetes mellitus requiring Insulin drips, rapid atrial fibrillation requiring Cardizem drips, patients requiring Heparin drips, Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) for pain management, and other medically complex needs.
- Patients undergoing drug and alcohol withdrawal, carefully monitored using the CIWA protocol until they are stable for discharge to rehabilitation programs.
- Complex wound care patients, treated with wound vacs and advanced wound management techniques to promote healing and improve patient outcomes as well as care of patients with Jackson- Pratt drains, percutaneous drains, nasogastric tubes, and continuous bladder irrigation.
This role is part of the Registered Nurse Level IV / Clinical Nurse IV must complete the following:
- Complete the Clinical Ladder binder within 12 months of employment
- Minimum of 5 activities in each Pillar (Leadership, Quality, and Organizational Contribution)
- 15 Continuing education units (CEU's)
- 20 Flex items
STATUS: Full Time
LOCATION: Unity Hospital
DEPARTMENT: Surgical Telemetry Unit (3400)
SCHEDULE: Day/Evening/Night - Every other weekend / holiday
DESIRED ATTRIBUTES:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
- Minimum of 6 months experience as a registered nurse.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assessment. Perform initial and ongoing assessment of the patient; demonstrate exceptional clinical judgment and advanced assessment skills; communicate and document assessment with interdisciplinary team; utilize all available resources in order to meet the needs of the patient and family
- Planning & Implementation. Develop and document plan of care, treatment and services; collaborate interdisciplinary health team to deliver care; maintains an appropriate nurse-patient relationship and provides an exceptional experience for the patient and family
- Evaluation & Education. Evaluate, communicate and document patient responses to care; revise plan of care based on ongoing evaluations; ensure the patient receives and understands education/training specific to their needs and abilities
- Training. Provide training for new team members on the unit; assume role of teacher for nursing students and other students shadowing on the unit; act as a resource for other team members for both clinical and non-clinical matters
EDUCATION:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

PAY RANGE: $37.18 - $49.92
