Overview

This position will be directly responsible for the continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment as well as the innovation of new machine control methods. Strong level of knowledge in the design, implementation, improvement and operation of industrial systems utilizing PLC's, pneumatic & hydraulic systems and servo controlled motions. Apply advanced level controls engineering principles, theory and concepts on existing and new applications. Responsible for controls on projects with large level of organizational involvement, technical requirements and required investment. Propose solutions for more complicated engineering problems. Communicate with customers (both internally and externally) on a regular basis. Provide guidance and expertise in the technical areas of design and equipment debug.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline (electro-mechanical, industrial automation).
  • Demonstrated track record of successful project completion and implementation.
  • 5+ years experience programming PLCs, AC/DC drives, HMIs, and Servo Drives. Allen Bradley and Omron preferred.
  • Proficient in AutoCad Electrical.
  • Experience with machine vision, Ethernet/IP, EtherCat.
  • Must be able to create and read logic and flow diagrams for program design, programming simulation and testing, and start-up
  • Panel design and layout, bill of materials and writing schematic capabilities are expected with this position.
  • Strong focus on safety and controls required to accomplish higher category levels of safety.

Responsibilities

  • Perform root-cause analysis, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment. Effectively solve all routine and most non-routine problems. Apply innovation, novel, and creative solutions.
  • Provide significant technical contributions to major projects and/or technical teams utilizing knowledge of Southco manufacturing processes, techniques, materials, finishes, documentation systems, CAD system, and business system.
  • Select electromechanical equipment, materials, components, and systems to meet functional requirements. Review projects including quotes, job specifications and resolve any quote to job specifications differences.
  • Complete project assignments and accountabilities, related to controls engineering, machine building, and robotic installations, on schedule and on budget.
  • Complete training to facilitate accurate and efficient accomplishment of job duties. Provide mentoring & coaching to others performing similar jobs. (Engineer I’s and II’s).
  • Install, program, and debug PLC’s, AC/DC drives, HMI’s and servo drives. Interpret and maintain electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, PLC programs and machine layouts. Lead and participate in Formal Product and/or Process Design Reviews.

Compensation Range: $95,000-$105,000
