SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Manager, oversees daily operational needs of the department associated with staffing, education, competency and quality improvement. Assures that decisions related to scope of responsibility are made within all department, hospital and regulatory agency guidelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational Management. Comprehensive knowledge of division areas, including the ability to fill in for any staffing or workflow position (including HIS and LIS systems and off-site locations). Responsible for creating and updating staff schedules, reassigning and dispatching team members to maintain day-to-day operations. Coordinates all morgue activities, including autopsies and deceased movement, providing support to nursing units, the ED, and affiliates. Adheres to staffing budgets and notifies Supervisors or Managers of discrepancies and overtime.
Staff Supervision and Development. Mentors, coaches, and provides guidance to Supervisors, Managers, and Directors to ensure timely workflows and appropriate staffing. Assists with personnel tasks such as orientation, training, and performance evaluations, including coaching for performance improvement. Approves vacation time, adjusts time cards, and documents schedule changes. Provides direct instruction to inpatient and outpatient departments regarding pathology and morgue procedures, including nursing.
Quality and Safety Assurance. Troubleshoots issues, interprets requisitions, and researches test requests as needed. Uses Quality Assurance data to identify gaps in quality and competency that could affect patient safety and quality outcomes. Proactively engages team members to address performance gaps and provides necessary education and training to meet quality standards and goals. Consistently demonstrates commitment to RRH Standards of Behavior.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3-5 yrs of relevant laboratory experience with increasing responsibilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
PAY RANGE: $19.50 - $23.00
