SUMMARY
The Patient Advocate in the Emergency Department (ED) will serve as a liaison between patients, families, and medical staff, ensuring the highest level of care and support during emergency situations. This role involves helping patients understand their rights, addressing concerns or grievances, ensuring clear communication with healthcare providers, and assisting with navigating the emergency care process.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Patient Support:
o Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and families in the ED during crisis or stressful situations.
o Ensure patients understand their medical conditions, treatment options, and the steps in their care plan.
o Assist patients in navigating the complexities of the emergency care process.
· Communication:
o Facilitate communication between patients, families, and healthcare providers to ensure clear understanding and expectations.
o Act as a mediator between patients and staff to resolve any concerns, questions, or misunderstandings.
o Ensure patients and their families are informed about the hospital’s policies, procedures, and their rights.
· Advocacy:
o o Advocate on behalf of patients to ensure that their needs are addressed in a timely and compassionate manner.
o Assist in resolving complaints or conflicts, and work to prevent issues from escalating.
o Help coordinate the discharge process, ensuring that patients understand follow-up care instructions and resources available to them.
· Collaboration:
o Collaborate closely with medical and nursing teams to address patient concerns and ensure comprehensive care.
o Partner with Patient Experience Specialist to coordinate care services, ensuring patients’ needs are met during their visit, and helping patients navigate the healthcare system.
o Work with other hospital departments (e.g., social services, patient relations) to facilitate patient care and support.
· Documentation:
o Accurately document interactions, concerns, and resolutions in the hospital’s patient management system.
o Maintain confidentiality in all patient-related matters and adhere to healthcare regulations such as HIPAA.
· Crisis Management:
o Provide assistance in handling emergency situations, offering calm and supportive guidance to patients and their families.
o Help coordinate rapid interventions and ensure appropriate resources are available to the ED team.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

- NYS DL - valid New York State Driver's License - New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NYSDMV)
PAY RANGE: $18.00 - $22.00
