Function of Position:
Under the supervision of the Surgical Technology Program Director, the Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the design, organization, planning, and review of the effectiveness of the clinical experiences for students enrolled in the Surgical Technology program. The Clinical Coordinator assigns students to clinical sites, ensures that health requirements have been met prior to the start of rotations, maintains records, and evaluates students' clinical performance. The Clinical Coordinator serves as the point of contact for the clinical
sites. The Clinical Coordinator teaches in the classroom, in the surgical technology laboratory, and participates in college activities.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Demonstrates and maintains current subject area knowledgeOrganizes clinical rotations and schedules students for clinical rotationsEnsures documentation of the evaluation and progression of clinical performance leading to clinical competenceCollects, maintains, and evaluates clinical case spreadsheets for each clinical student, per Association of Surgical Technologists' requirements. These must be maintained for each student to sit for the National Board of Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assistants (NBSTSA) certification exam at the completion of the programServes as point of contact for clinical agenciesProvides administration, organization, and may provide supervision of student clinical experiencePerforms site visits at clinical locations and periodically evaluates students' clinical performance withpreceptor feedbackProvides continuous quality review and improvement of student clinical experienceProvides academic oversight, including curriculum planning and development of student clinical experienceTeaches courses and evaluates student performance as per guidelines set by the department and Monroe Community CollegeTeaches multiple courses/sections each termEstablishes and maintains an engaging and supportive classroom environmentMaintains student attendance records, grades, and other records according to department and College guidelines and submits them in a timely mannerMaintains office hours according to contractual guidelines in order to support student learningAdvises students concerning academic, career, and related issues according to contractual guidelinesAssists department with student recruitment, enrollment, and placementAssists department with student retention and completion initiativesAssists with development, review, and revision of program curriculum, including assessment of student learning and program reviewDevelops innovative teaching pedagogy to facilitate learningIncorporates high-impact teaching practices into course designAttends department meetings as a contributing memberContributes to the College through department committeesActively engages in pedagogical and academic discipline professional developmentAssists in the implementation of grant projectsWorks independently and in a team settingDemonstrates excellent time management skills, and prioritizes workflowPerforms other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Surgical Technology Program Director and/or department chairMCC Expectations:

Required Qualifications:
NBSTSA certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)Graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agencyEarned bachelor's degree in Surgical Technology, Health Education, Nursing (or related field)Have a minimum of three years of documented experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five yearsAble to travel to clinical sitesAbility to teach courses within the departmentCommitment to supporting an inclusive campus environmentEvidence of respect for and understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needsEvidence of commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community collegeEvidence of proficiency with technologyProficiency with appropriate medical and communication technology as tools for teaching surgicaltechnologyCommitment to continued professional growthEvidence of effective communication (interpersonal, speaking, and writing) skillsPreferred Qualifications:
Earned master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.Recent classroom, conference, and/or clinical teaching experienceCurriculum development experience in the Surgical Technology fieldKnowledge of, or experience in, implementing a variety of teaching strategiesAwareness of the potential value of technology as a tool for teachingExperience with computerized student record managementExperience and/or interest in developing and teaching online courses.Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish or other languages, proficiently
Additional Information:
Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $45,000 to $58,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.
