Function of Position:

The Technical Assistant/Navigator is responsible for representing and promoting Perkins-eligible degree and certificate programs in Career Technical Education (CTE). This position will create awareness and promote CTE degree and certificate programs including Tooling and Machining, Solar Thermal, Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning, Mechatronics, Hospitality, IT, Engineering, Homeland Security and related non-credit certificates. This position will support faculty and staff with advisement and registration of current and prospective students, coordinating events and showcasing programs and facilities to potential customers and stakeholders. The Technical Assistant/Navigator will report to the Dean, Career Technical Education in the School of Applied Sciences & Technologies or designee.

*This is a temporary, grant funded position that may be renewed annually contingent upon availability of grant funding and performance reviews. This position is eligible for paid time off and benefits.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Promote and represent MCC's Career Technical Education programs with emphasis on credit programs.
  • Develop and revise recruitment plans and annually update the information packets, brochures and handouts.
  • Plan and implement off-site promotional and career pathway activities, such as visits to high schools.
  • Coordinate all aspects of transmitting information for recruitment purposes to sources of applicants such as, but not limited to, high school teachers and counselors, technology instructors and community organizations.
  • Coordinate special events.
  • Support special events through the Admissions Office such as Advisement and Registration Days, Express Enrollment and other enrollment enhancing events that the College may be hosting throughout the academic year.
  • Hold orientations regularly.
  • Provide and maintain a calendar of events and student contact opportunities for department faculty and the chair. Maintain records of contacts and events.
  • Assist faculty and monitor progress to ensure student persistence and completion are being met with faculty in conjunction with the School Specialist.
  • Collaborate with students to resolve personal and academic challenges to ensure retention.
  • Review, approve and process student program changes.
  • Collect and track student information to satisfy Perkins retention metrics and report to stakeholders.
  • Other duties may be assigned throughout the year.

  • Requirements:

    Required Qualifications:

  • Earned associate's degree.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to create and deliver effective presentations to potential students, parents and high school guidance counselors and teachers.
  • Work experience or significant practical knowledge of HVAC, Advanced Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Solar Thermal, Hospitality, IT, Engineering, and/or technical fields.
  • Ability to research, develop and implement recruitment strategies.
  • Valid driver's license in order to travel to work locations, job fairs, interviews and other events to recruit students. Travel may be approximately 50% of the time.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned master's degree from a regionally-accredited higher education institution.
  • Previous employment in higher education.
  • Experience with platforms such as Banner, Degree Works, Starfish, Civitas, Blackboard and Brightspace.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently

  • Additional Information:

    Salary: This position has a expected salary of $42,000 per year.
