High School Computer Science/Engineering Teacher
Job Summary
- McQuaid Jesuit, a Catholic school in Rochester, NY, teaching boys’ grades 6-12, is seeking a High School Computer Science/Engineering Teacher. The successful candidate will teach a range of courses in computer science and engineering, develop innovative curriculum, and inspire students to think critically and ethically about technology and its role in society.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach a full-time course load (typically 5 sections) in computer science, engineering, or related subjects such as:
- AP Computer Science Principles and/or AP Computer Science A
- Robotics and Engineering Design
- Introduction to Programming
- Introduction to Engineering Design
- Principles of Engineering
- Develop and adapt curriculum aligned with McQuaid Jesuit’s educational mission.
- Promote experiential and project-based learning opportunities.
- Incorporate Jesuit values into classroom practice, including reflection, discernment, and service.
- Serve as a mentor and role model for students in academic and co-curricular settings.
- Participate in departmental meetings, faculty development programs, and school-wide events.
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects or STEM initiatives.
- Supervise and support extracurricular activities, such as coding clubs, robotics teams, or technology-based service projects.

- We seek candidates who will participate in the extracurricular and spiritual life of the school. There are expectations of this position that may include but are not limited to school and faculty retreats.

- Proficiency in one or more programming languages and familiarity with engineering tools (e.g., CAD, Arduino, Raspberry Pi).
- Passion for working with adolescents and a commitment to holistic education.
- Alignment with the mission and values of Jesuit education.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with AP curriculum and college-level instruction.
- Interest in coaching or moderating STEM-related extracurricular activities.
- Willingness to engage in school life beyond the classroom.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Teaching certification or prior teaching experience preferred; experience in secondary education a plus.

Work Environment: Fast-paced school environment working in a school and/or office setting.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: Full time exempt, 10-month position with typical hours of 7:30am to 3:30pm. (additional hours/days may be required during the summer, extra summer days are paid a per diem rate) Salary range $48,000 to $58,000 per year
