Responsibilities:
General Purpose:
The ESM Video Specialist reports to the ESM Video Producer and is responsible for working in the T&MP Media Lab supporting students and Faculty with project based audio and video projects using specialized computers designed for editing. The person in this role will work with individuals to inform and assist the creation of media projects using software such as Avid Pro Toos, Final Cut Pro and the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite specifically Premiere. This position will also work to directly assit the ESM Video Producer with any production video projects that will support the Eastman School of Music. This position collaborates in designing and executing the future of Eastman's visual media infrastructure, working under the ESM Video Producer using artistic and analytical considerations to ensure long-term success. This position assists in shaping the future of music technology at Eastman by working closely with educational leaders to create content that prepares students to be versatile musicians, leaders, and innovators in a competitive music industry. This position will work closely with a student staff in the Media Lab to provide help support students outside of normal working hours. This position is crucial to Eastman's strategic goal of becoming an internationally preeminent school of music.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Creative Contributions:
- Meets & collaborates regularly with colleagues from across the T&MP department and the Eastman community to develop creative and engaging approaches to producing videos with students and faculty.
- Supports various departments with video-related projects
- Works with the ESM Video Producer, students, and faculty to create high-quality, professional video for the purpose of introducing & promoting faculty/staff/students
- Utilizes a variety of techniques/technology to produce both short and long-format 4K videos intended to capture the attention of the target audience.
- Uses existing 4K camera technology to produce multi-camera Livestream performances from Eastman performance halls.
Production:
- Supports the ESM Video Producer by using 4K hardware for recording, lighting, and audio recording skills to assist in a wide range of productions, including pre-screens, competition videos, multi-angle degree-recitals and Eastman ensemble performances both within Eastman's performance halls and off-site.
- Coordinates the activity of the Help Desk in the Media Lab to support projects by students and faculty.
Content Management:
- Manages digital media assets and templates, as well as a media archive with the necessary level of metadata to ensure search ability.
- Provides support as needed to locate assets.
Leadership and Collaboration:
- Serves as the Media Lab Coordinator at Eastman.
- Collaborates with colleagues within T&MP and around the University to provide best practices and support creative ideation.
- Coordinates with other video producers at the University to share ideas, ensure projects are well-coordinated, and well-collaborated.
- Packages and provides content for external media outlets and coordinates with outside producers on video support, as needed.
Technology Education
- Creates content under the direction of and with approval from the ESM Video Producer for training student staff and aligning with new initiatives, equip students with the skills necessary to support video initiatives at Eastman.
Other assigned duties
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in English, film/video production, or related discipline required.
- 1-3 years of professional experience film/video production, video journalism, higher education, similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- 1-3 years of professional experience in communications, film/video production, video journalism, higher education, or similar field preferred.
Required:
- Experience with advanced multimedia storytelling techniques on multiple platforms and high command of video techniques through sophisticated craftsmanship.
- Exceptional core video-storytelling skills, including a deep understanding of composition, sound, camera, lights, computers, and software necessary to produce visual and audio journalism is required.
- Studio and location filming experience, with a strong emphasis on lighting and audio capture skills.
- Competency in videography principles—from scripting through final editing—and an ability to show proficiency with branding guidelines.
- A team player who can think on their feet and offer smart, creative solutions is key
- Strong combination of technical, creative, and problem-solving skills related to the practice of video content creation and marketing.
- Knowledge of video’s role as part of a comprehensive content strategy, including search engine optimization, social media, and video content marketing.
- Ability to manage many projects at different stages of production with a high degree of confidence; excellent organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clients, and a general understanding of the higher education environment.
- Ability to work with a student staff to seamlessly operate a media lab support environment.
- Ability to act as in-house expert and consultant on videography techniques, equipment, programs, and processes.
- Ability to work individually and contribute as a creative team member.
