Job Title:  Occupational Therapist – Children’s

Location:  CP Rochester – Winton Road Facility, Rochester, NY

Salary:   $41,600 - $48,000 per year commensurate with experience

Employment:    Full Time/School Year (30.0 hours per week). Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday during business hours.  The school schedule is to be followed and vacations are taken during paid school breaks.  Six-week summer session is included in employment.   Evening work may be required as job duties demand.

Summary/Objective:

CP Rochester and Happiness House exist to support individuals with physical and developmental disabilities in choosing and accomplishing successive individualized life goals.  We do this by providing a wide range of services to people of all ages in the greater Rochester area.  Our purpose is to ensure that those we serve safely determine their own pathways in life and live as full members of their communities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Applied Science.
  2. Licensed or eligible for license as an Occupational Therapist in New York State.
  3. Current New York registration as an Occupational Therapist.
  4. Valid New York State Driver’s License.
  5. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  6. Proficient computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  7. Must have demonstrated commitment to performing job duties and tasks at a high level of performance.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Imparts agency philosophy of “Equal Opportunity, Independence and Realization of Individual Potential” to children, families, program staff and community resources.
  2. Maintains confidentiality of information relating to individuals and their families in accordance with agency policy.
  3. Upholds NYS Education Law/Practice Act as relating to the practice of occupational therapy.
  4. Performs appropriate evaluations to individuals to determine the need for occupational therapy services.
  5. Ensures valid prescriptions are written for all individuals on caseload.
  6. Carries out treatment plans developed after evaluation, in clinic setting for the Article 16 and Article 28 outpatient clinics as well as the Preschool or School Programs, as necessary.
  7. Available to consult with other professionals such as teachers, habilitation staff, as well as other members of the interdisciplinary team as appropriate, to facilitate delivery of coordinated quality services to individuals.
  8. Works with legal guardians, house staff or parents as integral members of the interdisciplinary team in the clinic, day habilitation or school setting, as needed.
  9. Communicates with physicians, orthopedists and other medical personnel in order to facilitate evaluation and treatment of individuals.
  10. Completes all paperwork in accordance with agency, program and department policies/guidelines.
  11. Ensures knowledge of paperwork, Electronic Health Record and applicable Medicare and Medicaid regulations in order to provide appropriate documentation.
  12. Attends all team, discipline and staff meetings as designated.
  13. Maintains treatment area in an orderly manner to ensure safety.
  14. Maintains all department equipment as appropriate.
  15. Advises Supervisor of Clinical/Children’s staff of need for replacement of old or ordering of new equipment.
  16. Meets with interdisciplinary team and Program Supervisor as needed to review status and need of program modifications for individuals on caseload
  17. Participates in conferences, workshops and in-service training as needed or recommended to enhance job skills and personal growth and development.
  18. Adheres to agency’s policies and procedures as well as department guidelines.

Supervisory Responsibility: None.  May supervise an Occupational Therapy intern from an accredited institution periodically.

Work Environment: This job operates in a preschool program environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds. Ability to pull and push wheelchairs up to *250 – 300 pounds – maximum weight required.

Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day, but employee will be expected to work at any of our partner agencies. Some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
