$17.43 - $24.40

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Orientation and New Student Programs Graduate Assistantship
The Office of Orientation and New Student Programs is excited to welcome applicants for a graduate assistantship. The graduate assistant is an integral member of the Orientation staff, assisting with the pre-semester trek, welcome week, and new student programs for incoming first-year and transfer students and their families.

The orientation program includes a summer-long online welcome experience, an optional pre-semester trek program (UR FOOT), and a 6-day Fall Welcome Week. As part of their responsibilities, the graduate assistant will play a crucial role in enhancing our outdoor trek program and first-year programming series.

The graduate assistant’s responsibilities will include the following:

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND EXECUTION

Under the guidance and in collaboration with the Orientation staff:

  • Assisting in the facilitation of Fall Welcome Week, including shared supervision of evening programming
  • Developing and facilitating training for Welcome Week Leads and Volunteers to ensure sessions are relevant, creative, and interactive
  • Coordinating the development of summer programming and supplemental social programming for treks for UR FOOT
  • Collaborating with the Assistant Dean and Director to develop and implement new student programming, which includes researching and applying best practices to support student transitions
  • Coordinating with university departments and offices on first-year programming

Student Staff and Volunteer Coordination

  • Creating and maintaining student staff shift schedules during Welcome Week
  • Assist in training for UR FOOT Trek Leaders and Trekees
  • Assist in supervising the UR FOOT treks, kayaking, indoor rock climbing, and evening social programming
  • Coordinating Welcome Week professional staff volunteers, including Rochester faculty, staff, and other relevant personnel

Communications and Marketing

  • Assisting with the management of social media channels and applications
  • Planning and designing Fall Welcome Week signage
  • Planning and coordination of Fall Welcome Week photography
  • Assisting with the content collection and testing of the Orientation Guidebook app
  • Coordinating UR FOOT communications
  • Developing a comprehensive photography plan for Fall Welcome Week
  • Other duties as assigned

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure the success of UR FOOT and Orientation programming

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enrolled in a graduate program (current or incoming)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Experience in event planning, student programming, or leadership development is highly desirable
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, digital design tools, and collaboration software is preferred
  • A passion for supporting first-year students in their transition to university life

Students will gain valuable skills in program planning, student development, supervision and management, communications and marketing, budget and risk management, and assessment.

START DATE: May 15, 2025

END DATE: August 29, 2025

REMUNDERATON

Approximately 20-25 hours per week; 30+ hours during UR FOOT Treks and Fall Welcome Week (8/15/25-8/23/24).
