In support of Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York (PPCWNY)’s mission, the Crisis Advocate has responsibility for providing crisis intervention, advocacy and outreach and education to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking. This work is done in the community, at schools, hospitals, courts, and at all partner agencies including correctional facilities. This position provides direct service to a variety of clients of all ages and backgrounds in multiple counties including Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, and Wyoming. This position is based in Monroe County and requires travel to all five counties.

Essential Functions

  • 85% Responds to crisis calls providing referrals, emotional support and accompaniment by phone and in-person at hospitals, schools, courts, law enforcement agencies, correctional facilities, and District Attorney’s offices
  • 5% Engages with professionals from organizations such as criminal justice, law enforcement, medical, victim advocacy, education and human services to make certain there will be consistent collaboration between organizations, ensuring an effective and sensitive community response to the victims of sexual assault and domestic violence
  • 5% Provides accurate documentation for client records, as required by funders
  • 5% Assists in ensuring provision of RESTORE services at family court, including filing family offense petitions

Other Accountability Activities

  • Signs up for On Call shifts at a minimum of two shifts per month including one weeknight and one weekend 24-hour shift on rotating basis with all staff, including holidays providing coverage to all Counties RESTORE serves including: Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, and Wyoming
  • Stays current on best practices by attending relevant educational conferences and seminars
  • Participates in affiliate initiatives and represent PPCWNY in a professional manner within appropriate forums, coalitions, etc., and uses those opportunities to increase participation in PPCWNY programs and to further agency goals
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department
  • Shows respect to all internal and external customers for differences in backgrounds, lifestyles, viewpoints and needs in areas such as race, gender, ethnicity, creed, sexual orientation and others
Requirements

Applicants must possess the following qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience):

Education—

  • Associates degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred in Human Services, Social Work, Health Education, Criminal Justice, or a related field 

Experience— 

  • Two years paid work in human services and/or one-year paid crisis counseling, sexual assault or domestic violence work required 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Must successfully complete the sexual assault advocacy program training during the first two months of onboarding
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license not in jeopardy of being revoked
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sexual violence, domestic violence, and stalking dynamics and effects, public awareness, and crisis intervention services
  • Must be very organized, able to work with changing priorities, and simultaneously handle multiple priorities
  • Collaborative and interpersonal skills are essential to perform effectively in various team environments; ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with individuals, families and staff at all levels is critical
  • Well-developed advocacy skills and a commitment to being victim-focused while working with collaborative disciplines is essential
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills

Work Schedule 
This is a full-time position; regular schedule will be 40 hours per week. Some evening and weekend duties, as well as on call responsibilities.

Benefits & Compensation
At PPCWNY, we are committed to equitable compensation practices and transparency.  In alignment with these efforts, the pay for this position ranges from $19.00 to $22.06/hour.
