Function of Position:
The Director of Public Safety, reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Administrative Services. The Director of Public Safety directs essential aspects of the Division's Public Safety planning, implementation, and security to support the College's overall mission, strategic plan, and goals. The Director of Public Safety is responsible for the management of all functions related to public safety, including parking services for all locations. The Director of Public Safety promotes and sustains the College and Division's commitment to student success, excellence, civility, and security for all and having a diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus community. The Director of Public Safety assists the Division in responding to emerging issues, trends, and community needs, while providing internal leadership and training that supports MCC's regional and national reputation as a leader among best practices colleges. The Director of Public Safety is also responsible for maintaining positive and collaborative relationships with law enforcement agencies to ensure that the campus is a safe and responsive environment for the College community. The MCC Public Safety department, consisting of sworn campus peace officers and civilian staff, holds an accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

Primary Functions:
Exercises delegated authority from the CFO/Vice PresidentDirects or performs essential operations related to overseeing and supervising the coordination and functionality of the Emergency Operation Center (EOC), campus parking, lost and found services, crime prevention, investigations, training, accreditation, and officer readinessActively assists frontline peace officers with enforcement responsibilities, as neededDevelops, interprets, and manages adherence to College policies, procedures, protocols, and regulationsExercises budget authority and administrative approvals for departmental expendituresProvides and coordinates professional development opportunities for staffWorks collaboratively with the campus community- faculty, staff, and students - supporting a culture of student engagement and successDevelops and sustains productive and collaborative relationships across divisions and with other College constituenciesServes as the College's primary liaison with local law enforcement agencies and develops collaborative relationships with same to ensure a safe campus communityServes as a liaison to college committees and supports college initiatives as appropriateRepresents MCC at national, state, and regional organizations and conferencesSecondary Functions:

Required Qualifications:
Earned Master's degree in an appropriate discipline from a regionally-accredited higher education institutionMinimum of seven years progressive administrative experience within a safety and security environmentDocumented compliance experience with sate training requirementsExperience as a sworn law enforcement officer in a federal, state, or local agency, or military law enforcement agency where the applicant was required to carry a firearm in the course of employmentDocumented experience in working with community, governmental, and other public sector agenciesDocumented experience in operations/management of an organization Experience assessing and developing appropriate responses to crisis situations and implementing best practices to ensure campus safetyEvidence of effective interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate partnershipsExperience collaborating with diverse groups of faculty, students, and staff on complex issuesAbility to pass a comprehensive background check showing the absence of any felony and/or misdemeanor convictions which would prohibit the applicant from receiving, possessing, and carrying a firearmMust possess a valid NYS Driver License, NYS pistol permit, current NYS police or peace officer credential, and pass a background investigation

Additional Information:
Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $105,000 to $125,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.
MCC offers a Flexible Work Policy for benefit eligible employees. Types of flexible work arrangements include flextime/staggered shifts, remote work/telecommuting and compressed work schedule. The availability of flexible work arrangements varies by division, department, and position, based upon business and operational needs.
