Function of Position:
Reporting to the Coordinator for Course-Based Learning Assistance, Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders are current or recent MCC students who work with other students to help them to develop effective learning strategies and to become self-regulated learners. SI Leaders are embedded directly into a course to model best practices and serve as a liaison between faculty and students. SI Leaders lead weekly collaborative sessions outside of class time to help students with discipline-specific content, learning strategies, time-management, and problem solving.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Foster the development of independent, intentional learnersHelp to identify and fill learning gaps with discipline specific contentHelp students understand and use effective learning strategiesProvide support in one or more sections of a historically difficult courseAttend class regularly Plan and lead group learning sessions outside of classCombine "how to learn" with "what to learn," to facilitate student learning, help students better understand concepts or applications of course content, and promote higher order thinking and problem solvingEngage students in collaborative learningFoster independence in learning through the Socratic method and other questioning strategiesDevelop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and facultyAttend training activities to comply with certification requirements before and/or during semestersSecondary Functions:
Attend ongoing professional development opportunities

Current MCC StudentTwo faculty letters of referenceCourse transcripts with As and Bs in the courses for which they wish to tutorTechnology savvy
Additional Information:
Pay Rate: $15.50/hr
