Function of Position:
Reporting to the program coordinators, program assistants will provide direct support to summer program participants. PAs will be responsible for working with participants in classes in specific areas of study, Math, English Language and Science and advisement. Classroom management skills are needed along with the ability to interact positively with high school participants. They will be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of participants. The successful candidate will bring a passion for teaching and a desire to support and mentor participants as they pursue educational and career goals.
*This is a temporary, grant funded position.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide classroom assistance in subject areas in one-on-one and group settings.Provide assistance with coordinating, setting up, distributing and clearing up of meals.Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and staff.Attend training activities to comply with UB requirements before the summer program.Promote critical thinking and problem solving skills.Assist with other projects as assigned.Display positive role model behavior, and provide mentoring/advising to program students.Maintain record of all classroom attendanceMCC Expectations:

Required Qualifications:
Earned High School DiplomaAt least one faculty reference from college faculty or UB program staff.College Course transcripts with As and Bs in the class for which they wish to assist.Preferred Qualifications:
Monroe Community College Upward Bound AlumPrevious experience in a similar positionProficiency with technologyBilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish or other languages proficiently
Additional Information:
Salary: $20/hour
